In my “50th” year one the things I wanted to do on my bucket list was to go through the Riverstone Castle. This last weekend Mike and I headed down to Glenavy for the day. I thought I would share our time there with you. Riverstone is a great place to visit and if you are like me and like color, home interiors, gardening, great food, and wine then you can get this all in one place. This week’s blog is not a lot of words from me because I think the photos say it all!

We started with a lovely lunch at the Riverstone Kitchen restaurant, I highly recommend this restaurant the food and service were superb.

After lunch we took a stroll around the home, garden, and giftware stores. There certainly is a lot to look at and take in. As a person who loves colour I was in my element. Everywhere you turn there are lush plants, beautiful soft silk colourful flowers, carved stone and ceramics, stunning mirrors, spectacular lamps, ornaments, and more. I just love all the elements of texture, scent, and colour.

The castle tour started by walking over the moat. The castle is huge, you certainly know when you have arrived, with so much detail everywhere you look.

Dot said she had trips to England with her designer and trips in China to source materials for the castle. It has been her life long dream to live in a castle and now she has realised this dream… and on a grand scale.

Some of the sculptures were made locally in Oamaru, this one is meant to be her husband on his cell phone!

Inside there has been so much thought and detail put into the building of this castle. Everywhere you look there are stunning chandeliers and pendant lights. The ceilings all have detail added too.

Riverstone Castle has a very peaceful and happy vibe, and I am sure will be around for many generations to come.
