Vicki, the owner and founder of V for Hair and Vj Barber Merivale, has an inspiring journey marked by passion, resilience, and a deep commitment to the hair industry. Her story began at the age of 13 when she started doing work experience in a salon, working tirelessly for free after school in a local salon for two years. At just 15, Vicki embarked on an apprenticeship, quickly proving her dedication and skill by qualifying as a professional hairdresser by 18. Driven by her entrepreneurial spirit, Vicki launched her own mobile hairdressing business in Timaru, which she successfully ran and sold in 1990 before moving to Christchurch.
In her new city, she took on the challenge of purchasing a run-down, single-operator salon. Through sheer determination and vision, she relocated, rebuilt, and expanded it into a thriving salon with a team of seven staff—all while raising two young boys. By 2021, Vicki sought new challenges and bought into a hairdressing franchise group. Over the next four years, she scaled the business to include six stores and a team of over 70 staff. In 2007, ready for a more balanced life, she sold her stores in the franchise and founded V for Hair and Vj Barbers.
Vicki’s vision for a simpler, boutique experience led to the creation of the highly successful V for Hair and VjBarber Merivale. Her salon has weathered recessions, earthquakes, and even a pandemic—emerging stronger each time. Throughout her career, Vicki has trained and qualified over 50 apprentices and remains deeply passionate about hairdressing and the industry.
Appointments
To ensure that we are able to provide you with the hair services requested, we respectfully ask that you allow appropriate time for your appointments. We do take casual walk in appointments, although it is recommended to book to avoid disappointment. Clients who are more than 15 minutes late for an appointment may be asked to reschedule. All appointments are confirmed by way of a text message or phone call on the business day before your appointment. With our text message service, we do require a reply to confirm your appointment the next day. If you do not wish to use this service, or prefer a phone call please advise at time of booking. We request that if you change your contact details you update these with us at your next visit. We do ask for 24 hours notice of cancellations and failure to do so may incur a non-cancellation charge.
